A craft beer label illustration for a Farm house IPA
SOW THE SEEDS is part of 2 beer collaboration Farmhouse IPA. The project is two beer brewing collaboration with Siren Brewery which will be named – “Sow The Seeds” & “Reap A Reward”.
I woke at 3am one morning with a strange idea for a beer label. Waking up like that is something I normally don’t do, I usually sleep pretty well. I awoke with a fully formed idea of a stacking collectible label series. Like last year’s Collaboration Series the project will be can labels that should be collected, the second label will have transparent areas that allow some of the first label to be seen underneath when stacked upon each other. It’s a pretty ambitious project that relies on the printing method, which in theory, should work well.
The project is all about how the passage of time can change something. The first beer (A Farmhouse IPA) will go out to customers when first brewed. The second beer is the same beer that will be barrel aged in bourbon barrels with added fruit/herb flavourings. Both the artwork and the beer will change over time. There are fields with seedlings on the first label that will grow and develop to be more complex much like the beer will do whilst aging in the barrels.
The piece was sketched in pencil, then inked with Indian ink, scanned and coloured digitally with a Wacom tablet.
